Course Overview
The Signing, Lighting, and Guarding (SLG) Training Course is an intensive three-day program designed to equip participants with the essential skills to manage and control traffic around roadworks. This course provides comprehensive training on ensuring the safe and efficient flow of traffic, minimizing delays, and reducing risks to road users. Covering all critical aspects of traffic management, from setup and layout to the use of traffic control devices, participants will gain hands-on experience and theoretical knowledge necessary for effective roadwork management. Successful candidates will receive a QQI and a CSCS Card upon completion.
The Signing, Lighting, and Guarding (SLG) Course is specifically designed for professionals responsible for managing traffic through roadworks. Over three days, participants will develop the expertise required to ensure roadworks are safely and efficiently managed, minimizing disruption and enhancing safety for all road users.

- Training Times: 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
- Assessment: Theory and Practical Examination
- Certification: QQI and CSCS Card upon successful completion
Course Content:
- Introduction to Traffic Management: An overview of traffic management principles, including the roles and responsibilities involved in roadwork scenarios.
- Roadworks Classifications: Understanding different types of roadworks and their specific management requirements.
- Traffic Controller Devices: Training on various devices used for traffic control, including their application and setup.
- Traffic Management Layouts: Designing and implementing effective traffic management layouts to ensure smooth traffic flow.
- Safe Systems of Installation: Procedures for safely installing traffic management systems to comply with regulations and standards.
- Traffic Management Applications: Practical applications of traffic management techniques in various settings, including urban and rural areas.
- Motorways/Dual Carriageways: Specialized training for managing traffic on motorways and dual carriageways, addressing unique challenges and requirements.
Prerequisites:
- One passport photograph
- Completed Safe Pass Course
- PPS Number
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Hard hat, high-visibility vest, steel-toe-capped boots, and gloves
Certification and
Recognition
Upon successful completion of the course, participants will be awarded a QQI and a CSCS Card. This certification demonstrates proficiency in managing roadworks and ensuring the safety of road users.
